In a small house in a dystopian future a young girl (5) cleans and tidy’s the house. The girls dad also cleans downstairs. The young girl comes out of her room and walks downstairs with the hoover. She reaches the base of the stairs. In the living room her mum is sitting on the sofa using an inhaler, a folded wheelchair is resting against the arm rest. The girl looks through and sees her mum is watching the TV and the film ‘Apollo 13’ is playing. She reaches the hall where her dad then tells her to go back upstairs and clean her sisters room as well, irritated she walks back up the stairs and begins tidying and hoovering her sisters room. As she reaches the window she sees a small butterfly knocking against the window. Shocked she quickly turns off the hoover and puts a stool close to the window and stands on it to be the same height as the butterfly. She then starts tapping on the window at the butterfly. It appears to struggle on the ledge fluttering one wing only slightly, after a short time the butterfly flies off and the girl stares out the window as it disappears. She goes downstairs and outside through the kitchen to an outside store of recycled packaging. Her dad sees her and asks what she’s doing and she replies that she is going to take mum to the moon. Her dad replies be careful and she begins to construct a rocket out of boxes and bottles. Once she has completed making the rocket she goes indoors to her mum and dad who are now sitting in the living room watching television. She says that the rocket is ready and that they need to come outside. Her dad begins to explain that its not real that she won’t really be able to go. As he is mid sentence the girls mum puts her hand gently on his and he stops speaking. They walk outside and towards the garage. The dad opens the garage door, inside is a large rocket, made from boxes and tin foil. The Dad walks towards the Mum and begins to push her in to the garage but the girl buts her Dad out of the way and pushes her in herself. The dad waits outside the garage and shuts the door. The girl pushes the mum inside the rocket. They sit in the rocket and look around them. The girl asks if her mum is ready for lift off and her mum silently nods. The girl begins to work at turning bottle tops and pretending to work controls on the rocket. The soundscape of the lift off of ‘Apollo 13’ is heard as the girl ‘takes’ her mum to the moon.
